Electric Window - Is it on its way out?
« on: 19 November 2003, 11:40 »
My automatic electric window up movement is having a permanent paddy. It goes up but then half way up it changes it mind and goes back down. I can hold the switch and it will go to the top no problems.

I've heard the electric windows are notoriously prone to not working, but does it sound like mine is on its way out?

Also how much to get new motor etc? ???

one thing, sounds silly i know... but is the window clean? because sometimes dirty windows cause them to stick.

i have also heard of some problems tho..

check the window runners as all vw electric windows are fitted with anti trap if the glass hits a obstacle the window opens again.

Had the same problem with mine.

Turned out to be a frayed cable.  Fortunately, the cable/guide assembly can be replaced separately from the motor.  About ?50 from VW.

Mine does this too, but it's just the rubber seals causing too much friction.  I know this is the cause as it only happenes when the window is dry.  If it is wet, no probs!
