Urgent Help Needed
« on: 09 January 2004, 13:12 »
Just got home from college, and there's smoke p!*sing from my passenger side brakes, going for about 5 minutes, I threw some water on it and it all steamed up and started hissing like mad. Still smoking now after 15 minutes. The engine block is hot too as is the collant tank so I took the cap off that and that let out steam too although the water wasn't bubbling. Just had it a week, don't fancy it blowing up, anyone know what's wrong or what I should do? The smoke seems to be coming from behind the brake disk.

Sounds like the pads are locking onto to the disc, probably on the inside pad.... Maybe a sticky caliper..

Let it cool down and take it off to have a look.
May need a new caliper or you can recondition it yourself (if you know what you're doiing)

sounds like the typical mk2 parking brake sticking on. My driverside rear was doing it. pulled it apart and rebuilt it. problem solved. :)

sounds right! nothing else would cause smoke to come from the back wheels unless its being handbraked!!!!!!
