I might cry!
« on: 25 October 2006, 15:02 »
So I took today off work to try and get my car finished.

I thought everything was done, tried to start it the other night however I could only hear the fuel pump working.

Thought at first it might have been an earthing issue, so I made sure that earth leads were ok.  Tried to start up again and smoke started coming out near the speedo, then all lights on the dash went out!... so I think I have fried the ignition wires??

I then looked again in the engine bay and could see a contact that has no connection to it on the starter motor. DUH!!!! Im so stupid!

Looked on laptop (foto below of old engine) for the connection within the engine bay, but cannot find it anywhere!!!.... where is this connection and which side of the engine bay does it come from.  I have checked three times or more, but cannot find it!

I'm pretty sure that wire you have highlighted is the main 12v feed to the starter in which case it would go directly to the +ve terminal on the battery.

You got any pics of your dad's split ?

That is the trigger wire to the starter, which runs from the rear of the fusebox out of the engine loom near where all the sensor wires are.  Its a chunky red/black wire!

I already have connection from battery to starter connected (the two  "O" rings).

It is the top "male" connection that is the problem?

just leave it, you don't need to have it connected on a Digi MK2 :)
Edit: you could try plugging the spade plug you have onto the other terminal ;)
