problem with brake warning light
« on: 06 October 2006, 18:10 »
I have had the pads changed on my golf due to the warning light and message coming on. however the light and message is still on.

The bloke at the garage told me that the pads that came had the sensor on but the plug was different so they have cut them of and joined the wires together.

I am just wondering if anything needs to be reset to stop the light and the warning coming on before I take the wheel of and start checking the pads and wires.

Thanks

Sorry but it sounds like a bit of a bodge job. When my light came on new pads and sensors went straight in and job done. Maybe the connection is loose or another part of the lead has a broken wire. If not could try getting it scanned and see if any fault codes come up.

they cut off the plugs!!!! I would of gone ape sh1t at them!!! if they bought/fitted the correct pads the plug would of fit!! I bought pads from halfrauds last year for my car and even they had the correct fitting plug!!

Tell me about it,
I've looked into it and it turns out that the golf low pad warning system works the opposite way than any other car I've seen before, ie the circuit is closed when the pads are fine and go's open circuit when they go low.
Luckily enough I have been back to the garage and they still had the old pads with the plugs attached so I have had to bodge it myself for the time being and when I get some proper pads I'll put them back on.

Cann't understand how the low warning can work though. Any other low warning pads I've seen have the wires going part through the pads and when they get low they touch the discs and create a closed circuit these obviously work the opposite but I can't see how.
Any body know just for curiositys sake?

^^^ that is wierd  :undecided: But as for that garage i would make them pay for a new loom/sensors for your car, i mean they have cut them so you would have to rejoin them in some way which is not good at all!!!
