I just run a std filter - they're £4 a pop, that's a lot of filters at one a year compared with £30+ for KN, and no discernable extra go. If you do get a KN get a panel one, the Drivers do suffer from car icing if the hot air supply system isn't working, not a problem this time of years but a serious pain come winter.

so ill stick with the pannel filter then. what i am after though is the foam thingy that goes on the end of the air box. or could i get some tubeing and shove it out the front of the car to increase air flow.

£4 a go? where are u gettin urs from? i pay 2.50 inc vat

i'd go panel everytime! i've been quite tempted to put a k&n or green cotton or similar brand panel filter in - they have a million mile warranty, and just need cleanin every now n again!
maybe thats an option? peoples opinions are appreciated!!

That foam pipe isn't really necessary, just bin it.  If you like you can run a cold air feed to the grill, but don't expect any major difference

Save that £30 from a K&N, and buy yourself a set of GTI dash clocks, just plug in and the rev counter will work
Check the hazard switch 1st, if its on the dash you need 2 plug clocks, if its on the column you need single plug clocks.

If you feel adventurous you can get the MFA working, but if not it will just function as a digital clock :)
