Car drives itself!
« on: 24 August 2006, 22:34 »
Hi

I have a 1.8T Mk4 golf 99 plate with 57,000 miles. Most times when I start it and move off the car accelerates itself not by much but enough to move the car along. This then stops after breaking a couple of times, also it only seems to happen in the morning!

Can anyone offer and reaqson why this should happen?

Any help is much appreciated

Thanks

Alan

Hey I keep telling people here.

When the 1.8 turbo is cold, just wait for the revs to settle down before pulling away - about 30 seconds. Otherwise the sensors are in slight conflict with each other. The cold start is ECU generated with a dose more fuel, hence revs are higher, then they will fall when inlet manifold is warmer, then all the other gismos get into action, the MAF etcetera.

Start the engine, get yourself comfortable, select something on the CD, then drive off, go for the throttle when the road is safe and free of lunatics ...Huh

Hi

Thanks for replying so quickly. That sounds like our problem so we will take your advice and pick a good cd before heading off!

Cheers
