Best side to run battery cable down
« on: 05 July 2006, 18:36 »
I am wanting to place a simple Vibe CBR10 active sub in the boot of my 1991 8v.  I have heard that you should run the power cable from the battery down one side of the car and the RCA's down the other side.  The thing is though, I can't find a grommet into the engine bay on either side of the bulkhead (fair play, I didn't look too hard as I don't pick up my new gigs until Saturday).  Could someone tell me which side is the most accessible to get a +cable through?  I know there should be one near the fusebox on the offside but I'll be damned if I can locate it.

I think the best thing to do ( and what I did) is run the live into the car on the same side as the battery, once you have the wire inside the car run it across to the drivers side ( just run it under the carpet) and then on into the boot. The reason I do this is so you can then run your R.C.A's down the passengers side of the car and as far away from the fuel pump as possible. I ran the live across from passenger to driver side in the car because I didn't want it exposed to the heat at the rear of the engine (by the exhaust) and having the R.C.A's as far away from things like a fuel pump helps to reduce the chances of interference with the signal leads. I had a 12 in ported Vibe enclosure in mine and it was tumpin

I love my golf!!!  A choice of 3 rubber bulkhead grommets to choose from.  Positive cable went straight through to bulkhead passenger side, across to drivers side and clipped to existing cable loom running alongside the door.  I ran the RCA's straight down the centre beside the handbrake cable and the negative cable straight from one of the rear light cluster mounts.  Took 40 minutes all in, with some twit giving my the ins and outs of how "my vectra was SO EASY to install the Twister amp, you just lift this here and...  that's the thing with 3 doors, the trim is a pain to remove...  your car is just going to rattle with a 12" sub in there".  Bless him.
