GY Eagle F1's GSD3 205/55/16 Tyres
« on: 28 June 2006, 14:18 »
Hi,

An Old Chestnut this one - but who knows ?

Just fitted 4 new Eagle F1 tyres to my 2001 turbo, had 70% worn P6000's on the back with cracked side wall all around the circumference where the tread starts and 1/2 worn Mich pilots on the front, one of which had a side wall patch repair on it ! on the inside so could not see it when negotiating the purchase.

Aquired the AUM Turbo a month ago with dodgy tyres but an MOT only 200 miles before purchase ? hmmm

The F1's are noisy just now, particularly on the motorway above 60 but noise drops off above 100.

Questions:  Sorry for that.

1) Do they bed-in and become a little more relaxed with mileage and time ?
2) What is the best pressure for these at the Front  ? when 2 people on board, load aprox 21 stone.
3) What is the best pressure for these at the Back   ? same load +  about 2 stone luggage in the boot.

Please do not quote the manual at me ! I'd like to hear from folks who use this F1 GSD3  tyre or have some personal experience of F1's GSD3 tread pattern.

I'm not keen on the noise, it is a warm day today, surface tarmac is warm.

Your comments please folks

I moved onto Bridgestone Potenza RE720's for exactly that problem of road noise from the GSD-3's.  (Plus, I'm convinced the sidewalls are a little softer on the F1's).  They will get a 'bit' better with time, but won't be perfect.  I had 6 F1's on the bounce; they are a very good tyre - Then I decided to try 4 RE720's, & couldn't fault them.

My new 18's came with GSD-3's all round; could have been a lot worse!

But when they do wear out, I'll be replacing with 720's.

As with pressures on the 16's/F1's, I always liked 2.1 BAR all round, myself. (What's that..... About 32 psi???)

I've never carried any big loads, BTW.

Thanks Ivor,

I go with 1.9 bar on the stern to get more tyre tread on the tarmac.

They have improved with a warm-up and 220 miles of fast manoevering on sticky rads this week-end.

They are good, bot the hype is stronger. Next time....I'm up for Pirelli PZero Negros with the soft compound. I'm more interested in driving 10k with more fun than 18k a tad more carefully.

F1's make noise on some tarmac surfaces (don't talk to me about those wretched concrete motorway surface)s - remember that folks.

That's how I see it.
