should just be a straight swap, take the standard one out and just use the cage that comes with the JVC, dead easy

i take it from ur user name u have a mk4 golf? if not ignore me lol

if so be VERY careful when fittin, its not always just plug and play, the socket VAG used may be std ISO but the pin's are populated differently as many modern VAG cars use CAN BUS wiring, so have several perminate live feeds instead of the normal 12v ignition and 12v perminant normally found on std ISO set ups. so if u use a multi meter, u will find there maybe a 12v perminant feed on the car end of the loom, that will correspond with the attena wire of most head unit looms, this will cause problems, and i have seen several cars have major wiring failiers and at worst fires due to this common mistake of thinkin it will just plug straight in,

the other thing u may find, is due to the fact it may be CAN BUS wiring, u may not get a ignition feed to the head unit. so if u wish to install 100% correctly into ur car, you will need to source and ignition feed for the head unit, (and of course fuse it )

this is very common and if u cant take on this ur self or are unsure then u should seek advice from a specialist. i do this all the time, and unfortunately fix the problems when it all goes pete tong.

hope that helps

In regards to the above post, where is the best place to take an ignition feed from, will the radio fuse in the fusebox do it as my Mk2 GTi has permanent feed and I want to do properly.

as said earlier, with mk4 golfs, u need to be carful with the wiring. although it might plug in quite happily, and on some golfs will work fine, thats not always the case, usually on the earlier style head unit i believe one of the wires on the ISO connection is the K wire which is an antenna trigger, however having it incorrectlly wired up can have some horrible effects on the computer making lights pop up on the dash messing around with central locking etc. what id suggest is pop down to halfords, as they can supply you with a harness adapter that you can plug into either end of the ISO that eliminates this problem, also u might find you will need an antenna signal booster, as the origanal radio would have had one built in, and an aftermarket one wont their available again from halfords, and arnt 2 expencive. not somthing you always need, but will do sometimes.

yeah ur almost there, but why would u recommend people togo to halfords? you are much better off going to a independent specialist, halfords employee's are usually under trained monkeys that really dont give a sh*t and cause most of these problems because of there lack of training, and halfrauds corporate policy of, 'we wont bother training any of our fitters, we will just give them a basic tool kit and say go on son give it a go'.

any1 thats unsure, take it to a independent specialist!! they are far better trained and have a reputation to uphold, if a halfords employee fu*ks up ur car, he wont care, cos he still gets paid the same!!

i no this and can comment on this because i currently run a very successfull audio/performance specialist shop, and end up fixing most of the halfords, cock ups, and i no what goes on at halfords because i was assistant manager of a store before i set up my own shop, so please people avoid halfords, ull be better off in the long run!!
