Those DVD players you buy from ebay...

eg - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SAT-NAV-Navigation-VW-T5-MFD-2-RNS-multivan-MFD2-T5-DVD_W0QQitemZ330009155945QQihZ014QQcategoryZ75327QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Whats involved in getting them up and running?
When my MkV arrives, it'll have the basic cd player in it & Ipod connection. Does this nav system just slot in in its place?
Also - do I need some sort of navigation disk for it?

Thanks

Hi Ranter

By dvd players, i assume you mean the dvd sat nav units. The linked you supplied is the nav for the vw touareg - wont fit the golf, not easily anyway

You need this:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-MFD2-Versione-DVD-RNS-2-SAT-Navigation-System_W0QQitemZ230010218593QQihZ013QQcategoryZ75327QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Its as close to plug and play as it gets! you need a flat head screw driver and a torque screwdriver to get the fascia and unit out - "how to install noki kit" by the Doc will help here

You need:
1.the unit, - with code
2.a gps aerial ( which you can place on the dash - or under it depending on how resource full you are!) 3.and a europe dvd map, preferably version 3

If it is coming with an ipod connection, this probably uses the h/u cd changer port - IMO it should just swap out. Downside is that while useing the nav, you wont be able to play cd's - cos only one cd/dvd bay. Or dont know if your ipod connection is a std aux input or specific to ipods only.

hope this helps!

Oh - GTI CV7, man was i pissed - reading the manual the night i bought the car - about only the menu stuff you could - dashed out at first light - only thing i could set was the speed warning  :embarassed:

Midline computer... I feel like a poor relation with it! The manual gives you a real sense of 'look what you could have won...'
The guy I bought my nav from on ebay specialises in OEM nav. The unit looked as new, with chrome look buttons, VW code card and genuine vw version 3 nav disk. I watched him remove the instrument cluster and fit the GPS aerial behind it. He said the aerial can 'see' through plastic and glass but not metal. I really wanted the the fin antenna on the roof, but he said removing the roof lining was a real pain, not sure what they cost either.
The DVD version seems the bollox, it uses the ABS sensors on the rear wheels to help it maitain accuracy, and the disc holds all of Europe, unlike the CD which is just one country. It also has points of interest and  split sceen too. The guy's based in Leicester.
My Golf has the changer in the armrest, it just plugs straight in... on the menu it has a 'AUX' button, not sure if you can connect an ipod as well?

hi csi_basel

Totally forgot this thread originally was for sat nav instructions. Is this for a dvd based nav? Or is it a pdf file of a scanned cd nav manual? From a link in netherlands? that thomk5gti posted on ukmkIV forums?

If it is a dvd nav manual would mos def need a copy!

cheers

Hi thomGTI

I'm afraid that its just the cd nav manual and not the DVD.  I've not seen that anywhere.
