ignition ballel?

how do you get it out? i need to swap mine from one car to the other, both 90 spec with the hazard switch behind the wheel.....

easiest way, is to undo the hex bolt holding the surround to the wheel, and the bolt at the bottom (take it completly out!!) holding the column to the UJ.  Then the whole thing will slide up and out of the car.  Next you need to drill a hole in a specific location so you can press in a clip, then the lock will pop out.
OR you could just swap the columns over completly ;)

how do you swap them over? i undid the the allen key bolt at the bottom and i expected it to slide off but it didnt .... am i missing something?

well you start by reading everything I just posted  :grin:
Undo and remove the bolt at the bottom of the column holding it to the universal joint, then the whole column will come out complete with the surround.  The reason undoing the allen key isnt enough is because of the steering column spline adaptor

Aye I've done it both ways, on my GTI I removed the adaptor because I have an early VW boss on my wheel.  Then later down the scrappy I had to remove a complete column so I could pinch a PAS universal joint for my 2.0 8v/PAS conversion ;)

I thought if you removed the column then you had to drill out the shear bolts?

everything becomes clear once you're looking at it.  btw removing the bolt completly is very important or the column wont go anywhere, I was trying to tak the column out of that PAS equiped car in my local scrappy for about 3 weeks, before I remembered that the column has a notch cut out of it that the bolt passes through!  Felt a bit silly  :grin:
