Clarification of Part - Suspension

Hi there, i am just solving a few issues with my vehicle. An issue was pulled up when it last had its MOT and it appears to be affecting the car now as the suspension feels a little odd and there is also minor clunking on full lock.

The report says : N/S/F Strut Top Bearing Siezing up

I was wondering if someone could clarify the part and what it is and also what part i need from www.vwspares.co.uk so i can order it as i cant see anything of that name.

Car is a 1991 Mk2 Golf 1.8 16v GTi.

Front Top Mount 1.8 G60 (Heavy Duty)  03456 £7.68 ea

they are G60 items but will fit 16v's also

buy 2 & replace both sides

You should replace the top nut as well, as its a self-locking item.

Thanks for that, is it a relatively easy job to do ? Me and a mate would be doing and we both like to get stuck into things really , not bothered about a challenge....

anything i need to watch out for or is it just a case of out with the old , in with the new...

Once you take the top bolt off, jack up the car & remove the 2 bolts holding the strut to the wheel hub. Mark it up carefully or you'll mess up the camber!
Then you'll need to get a spring compressor on it, part #10 is a slotted nut so you'll need a slotted nut tool to remove it.  It is possible to remove without it though, but it makes the job much easier.

If it was me I'd do both sides, and I'd renew the front bump stops while you're there.
