8v GTI convert to Carb?
« on: 26 March 2006, 03:22 »
As I cant seem to get my 8v KJet to run, I'm thinking of making things simpler and converting it to a Weber carb.

What parts to I need, and what work is required to be done?

Thanks!

do you mean the weber that replaces the standard pierburg on 1.6/1.8 carbed Golfs etc?
if so i think youll need a fuel pressure regulator like a Filter King to drop the high GTI pressure down for the carb- the 1.6 etc have a simple low pressure mechanical fuel pump on the engine block.  the carb should come with an alloy adapter plate and new studs (check these are there if you buy a 2nd hand one!) and youll need the inlet manifold off a 1.8 driver or gl to fit your GTI head. youll have to route the choke cable into the car but the dash has a blanking plate for it anyway. probably pick the lot up from a scrapyard for a few quid!
the weber 2e2 replacement is a good choice- my old 1.6cl was transformed when i fitted one
If only my Volkswagen was as reliable as everyone else's...
