Golf Stalling!
« on: 23 January 2006, 22:25 »
1990 Mk2 Golf GTI 1.8 8V.

The Golf keeps stalling  quite regularly when I stop at halt signs.

Has anyone any ideas as to what it may be.  I thought it may be the fuel pump or fuel  delivery pressure.

I have changed air and fuel filters, cleaned intake manifold and cleaned injectors.  It runs fine when driving, its just when I stop.

Thanks in advance

David

More than likely gonna be the ISV matey. Does it seem to drop too low on the revs when your slowing down on the brakes and drop the clutch, sometimes stalling? And is it idleing right? (Bout 800 to 1000rpm) If so take it off and give it a proper spray through with carb cleaner, leave to soak in petrol for a good few hours, repeat the carb cleaner, then a finishing touch with the WD40 caan through it to clean it even more and dry it out!

Def do this BEFORE you even think about adjusting the idle higher! You'll only be over compensating, this will lead to problems later.

yeh clean the isv first. Ive never come across a cloged up isv myself though

Look for air leaks in the vacume hoses and check the oil breather grommet for any ware - its ontop of the rocker cover

also tighten the rocker cover bolts. that worked once  :smug:
