strange noise;DRIVING ME MAD!!!!!!

i went to my local garage today about my problem he said it may be my drivshaft or gearbox.booked it in on friday when i asked how much it would cost to find the problem he said nothin :smiley:so hopefully i will soon know what it is.i will post up to let you know how ive got on.

just a thought but might help narrow it down. try finding a smooth road(if there is such a thing in the uk), build up decent speed , then put the clutch in so the engine revs drop. that way if the noise is still there it's definatley from something in the wheel area. I only say this as i had a similar problem a few years back which turned out to be a loose pulley that only squeaked when turning left.

ive gone down the road with the engine of and ouy of gear and still the same noise.got it back from the garage just and he said the noise is coming from the gearbox :sad:he said it isnt that bad at the mo and if it was his he would leave it to get worse before fixing it also as its only a slight noise at the mo he carnt say 100% that it needs to be done but when the noise is worse he will be able to pin point it.I didnt think it could be the gearbox cos like i said i still get the noise when out of gear an rolling along.For e recon box he said it would be £450.00 think thats fitting to,is this good?any advise on the matter would be much appreciated.
