oil temp stuff
« on: 29 October 2005, 21:50 »
Hi everybody,

Ok well had the car for a month now, and apart from new brake cylinder (old one popped down the m4) everythings fine. Apart from the oil temp, which is really annoying. I cleaned it up and put a new connector on it but still no luck, anyone have any other ideas or know how much im looking at for a new one and where from? Oh and does anyone know of a good scrappy in the Bristol area too?

Thanks.

i think the oil temp sensor is the smaller one at the front. Did it ages ago so cant remember well. few quid from VW mate

They can fall into pockets at scrappies so be careful

It is the one on the front of the oil cooler as my young padawan Blue points out. The one behind it is the oil pressure sensor. It's likely to be a dodgey wire loose somewhere as the sensors are fairly robust. :D

My car has the wrong filter housing on it so there is no oil temp sensor on my car, but I'm told by a mate that the MFA will only display the temp within a certain range.  When the engine is cold it will read nothing, then kick in when it reaches a certain temp.

It starts reading from 50c and above I believe...I've got some VDO gauges in mine so I can't remember what the original was..
