Not wanting to be racist especially in this day and age but my mate makes and sells scalextric stuff, fencing, little camera fellas etc etc and he's just had the same hassle from an Italian buyer. He reckons they are nothing but bother and now will not sell anything to anyone based in Italy. He's even had one guy try it on even though one of the parcels was tracked and signed for by said person.

Going back to swapping the lights.  I recall that I did the swap in the work car park on my lunch break in around 15mins.  It's easy and quick if you have a socket set.  All plug and play.

Now that's my kind of modification, thanks for that information :-) Did you sell your original ones? If so do you mind if I ask what you got for them? Seems pretty variable on eBay how much they can go for, similar to R tail lights.

The GTI ones will go for a fair bit less than the R ones.  The R ones tend to be rarer.  I think that I paid a little under £300 for the R ones used, sold my GTI ones for £160...  so it would have been a good value modification if it wasn't for the fact that I had the worst eBay buyer ever.

-Listed as for UK buyers only, chap from Italy wins the auction
-Managed to sort out shipping and literally was messaged multiple times a day on shipping progress even though he had the tracking number
-They arrived with a tiny bit of perspex chipped off of one unit which could easily be glued back in without anyone noticing.  I offered a 25% refund but he wanted the money for an entire replacement unit
-At that point I had had enough of dealing with him so just refunded him the £130 that it would cost to get the single unit so that I would never have to speak to him again.

I'm assuming that he just glued it in and pocketed the £130.

Oh no, sorry to hear that! That's certainly very generous of you in the end, were you even obliged to offer a refund? I thought the very most that sellers seem to offer is 'returns accepted, buyer pays postage' or something, I would have asked him to send everything back for a full refund!

I could have done a return but to be honest at the time I was splitting my time between UK and Australia with work, so that fact that I was living on expenses and pulling in a lot of overtime at the time (those were the days!) meant it wasn't worth my hassle...  especially when the lights that I would be listing were damaged which were likely to sell for a much lower value... and I managed to get a £30 refund from DPD.

Had a catback exhaust system listed the other week, collection only, had a chap from Portugal win and then ask me how much for postage.  Luckily I relisted that and managed to get an extra £100 and a £1 final selling fees promotion.
