Golf R DSG and GTI DSG
« on: 03 January 2018, 12:36 »
Sorry if this has been answered before, but is the 6 speed DSG found in the R the same as the GTI?

I'm looking at getting a GTI and wondered if it could handle another 40ish bhp if i decided to chip it

Thanks!

The mk7 golf r and mk7 gti share the same 6 speed dsg

The mk7.5 gti uses the same 6 speed dsg

The mk7.5 gti pp uses the new 7 speed dsg

The mk7.5 r uses the new 7 speed dsg

Hope this helps!

Although from a spec point of view the 7 speed DSG from the 7.5 GTI PP and the 7.5 R might be similar (don't know if they are) surely they must be different units as the R model has the transfer box for the AWD to the rear Haldex unit, and the 7.5 GTI PP unit has the special mechanical LSD installed.

Not sure if they are similar at all really ?

I guess part numbers are how you'd find out for sure if they were 100% identical.

As for it handling extra power, from what I've read the DSG box seems to be able to cope with a stage 1 tune far better than the manual. With manuals you read a lot of about clutch slip after stage 1 is applied.

That's only a strictly amateur opinion btw, based on reading this and other forums a lot over the last few years.

^^

As above.  Lots of reports of clutch slip after stage 1 (see VWROC forum) and plenty of threads/posts about the weak (chocolate) clutch and better upgrades. Worth looking in the modifying sections of forums to get the bigger picture.
