It was a pretty big screw in the very last tread block which started to hiss when moved. It was right at the edge of what could have been considered a safe repair, so I went down the route of 2 new rear tyres as I thought that whatever was put on would be pretty different to the BS ones. I was not too keen on having something which much better grip on one side than the other.
I don’t have much luck with tyre work, on my first MK7 GTI, when replacing tyres and doing the alignment, a place badly scratched one alloy which needed a full refurb and whilst doing the alignment, they used the parameters for a MK6 as they didn’t have the ones for a MK7 (but they didn’t think to mention this until I got home and read the paperwork and called them back!) Also a few years ago a place didn’t properly balance the wheel until I returned and asked if it had been done!
So that fact that the 2 tyres have been replaced, wheels haven’t been scratched, seem to be correctly balanced and the alignment wasn’t touched, it wasn’t too much of a disaster other than a few ££££

Still a shame that on the Golf (or pretty much any car these days) there isn’t an option for an OEM full size spare, which would have meant I wouldn’t have needed to have got it done immediately! I did noticed on the configurator the other day that it is an option on the Passatt.
Cheers.
