mk4 GAMMA RADIO/CASS QUESTIONS
« on: 02 November 2005, 02:16 »
I'm picking up my first mk4 on friday, when I test drove it I noticed it had the stock VW tape player in the dash. My questions are:

I know you can hook up a boot changer to the gamma headunit but is it only certain brands/models and other than the changer and cable , what else do I need? I heard some mk4's require a £50 part or lead from VW, how do I tell if mine does?

Has anyone fitted a cd changer in the glovebox of a mk4?

I also have a sub & amp which I never got round to fitting in the old mk3, can these be run from the Gamma headunit too?

As ever, any help greatly appreciated, please don't leave me having to listen to the two cassettes I still own, one of them is the soundtrack to Saturday Night Fever I've had since I was about 9!!

i bought a sony 6 disc boot changer for mine, ill try and find a link as to where i got it from, but it was online and i got the 'interface' with it, basically you get the boot changer and bung it in the 1st aid compartment in the boot, ive never seen one in a mk4 glovebox , the cables youu get are long enough and just run them like you would in any car, then pop out you gamma and youll see where the plug fits into the back and hey presto!! think i paid about £136 for my boot changer/leads/interface 2 years ago its sat in the cupboard at home as i took it out and never fitted it again when i was going to sell my car back in august, so if you want one let me know as im gonna fit my flip sony mp3 unit in any time soon so dont need the bootchanger

as for amping yup you can do that too, there is a thread in the mk4 section with a link in it from sugar as for the part she bought to run a amp etc from hers, basically its just another adaptor which convets the rare sockets on the back of the gamma to rca outs and a remote wire to do the switching.

hope this helps a bit
