Odd sized drive shaft?

Hi,

My inner CV joint on the passengers side gave up on Thursday and left half it's parts along the road.

Anyway, got it home and all the broken bits left on, off, and got a new CV and boot kit.

But, the boot kit, even though I've checked several manufacturers books, all state the drive shaft is 22mm.

The boot that came off mine is about 30mm, and the drive shaft doesn't taper at all, it's about 30mm the entire length.

Is this some after market drive shaft I've got or is this normal?

It's a 1990 8v GTi

etka list two sizes of boots and drive shafts

mosts are listed as 90mm but the 16v is listed as 100mm (would think the g60 is 100 mm as well )

would think the sizes correspond to the wider side of the cv boot 10mm there would be 8mm or so on the shaft

if a were you i would try a 16v cv joint

just a idea does your car have 256mm front disks? if so maybe someone's fitted 16v disks, hubs etc that may need 16v shafts if so they changed your gearbox flanges to take the  bigger drive shafts

when i got my new gera box for mine i hade to change the cups on my shafts cos they were different size,they were bigger aswell.easy job though !
