Fan overrun

A couple of times now, after only a short 3 mile journey from work to home, the fan has kicked in when switching the engine off, and only goes off when switching the ignition on and off again.

Anyone any ideas?

It may be the DPF going through an active regeneration to burn off the soot deposits that have accumulated in the DPF. See reply #18 in the thread below.

If you do mainly short journeys, it's advisable to give your car a good motorway blast regularly, to help keep the DPF clear of excessive soot build up.

How long does this active regen cycle last if we let it run it's course?

Not sure, as I can't remember when I last had an active regen with my mk6 and it may be different for the mk7.

Probably worth using the search function in the mk7 section of the forum and search on DPF as I think this has been discussed by other forum members.

10 to 15 mins for an active regen. Fan wouldn't go off though with ignition as it's trying to cool the dpf.

on my previous car a Scirocco 140tdi the fan over run could be stopped by turning the engine on and off,my GTD over runs at times for about 15mins told by garage its a natural occurance to clear dpf on short runs seems to occur more often on this car than it did on the Scirocco.

I've had this and also had it on my old Octavia VRs, always thought it was a fault with the temp sensor sticking as it always seemed to happen in cold weather.

Fan is on full and remains on after switching off. If you switch on and off again the fan stops.

Should be something about it in the manual if its the case that is normal as I wasn't happy leaving the fan blaring at full speed in work car park and niot going back to if for 12 hours.
