Changing Temprature coolant sender HELP
« on: 28 March 2014, 17:58 »
Hi all,

i am having a major blond moment.... Earlier this afternoon i changed rear discs pads and wheel bearings. I also attempted to change the "Blue Temprature coolant sensor" how ever i cant seem to locate it lmao! i have a threaded type sensor from the right of the cylinder head, and another threaded sender from the radiator (i think this is the thermostat sensor?)

The car in question is a 1987 golf Mk2 Gti 8v PB engine code.

cheers

Luke.

Look on the coolant flange that the radiator top hose connects to, between cylinders 3 and 4.

The thing on the nearside end of the head is an oil pressure switch. The thing on the radiator is the thermoswitch that triggers the rad fan.

there is a chance your temp sensor is the older style. is the flange on the front of the head black plastic or alloy?

You've probably got the olde alloy flange that comes out of the cylinder head which doesn't have the blue temp sensor on it. You can do a direct swap for the plastic version of the flange and just plug and play. You will however have to buy the black sensor that sits just in front of the blue temp sensor to fit the flange as your old sensor won't fit. Also the black sensor has two pins, and you'll only have one wire to connect to it, simply connect another length of wire to the other pin and earth it to the right hand side of the intake manifold. Magic! I did this to my pride and joy and it did appear to run better with the blue temp sensor rather than the old one!
