Your situation with being lied to about allocation is the extreme and something I wouldn't expect to happen very often just one bad egg.
Take a trip over to the mk 7 section. You may wish to revise this statement 
or do some searching on the mk6 forum for threads from mid 2009 to march 2010.
Threads like the August order thread etc. Its the norm especially for the first year or so of a model.
