Mk3 cabrio not starting.. Help

My head is wreaked with this, 96 or 98 cabrio 1.8 8v, cranking over but not firing, I checked for a spark but it sparks 1 time when cranking but then nothing, and there is fuel getting threw, the problem started 1 day after it was sitting running outside when my friend ran into the house, the car engine then starting idling funny with high revs and then it cut out and hasent started since.. Any1 had this before please need help to get my friends car sorted...

Have a Search in the Mk3 Section mate loads of different reasons for this problem.

Sounds like an immobiliser fault to me.

Unless you've mistaken a skip for a Golf3 cabrio?  Not difficult.

Immobiliser stops the fuel so cant be that!

Sounds like a vacuum hose to me.

The odd spark then nothing, and no one has mentioned coilpack............

Immobiliser would cut it off after a couple of seconds running so it would still start unless its aftermarket.

Thanks lads, gonna try coil pack first, apparently there a commen fault on them, if I don't get anywhere with this il let yas know, cheers
