Wrong again Wayne.

215/40's are fine. Check the Wheel/Tyre info up above.

Specification  Sidewall  Radius  Diameter  Circumference  Revs/Mile  Difference

205/50-15         4.0in  11.5in    23.1in         72.5in        874        0.0%
205/40-17         3.2in  11.7in    23.5in         73.7in        860        1.7%
215/40-17         3.4in  11.9in    23.8in         74.7in        848        3.0%

So as I said they will throw the speed / gearing out to a bigger degree against 205/40's

Where you are wrong Wayne is telling people they cannot use 8x17 wheels.

I have never said that, the question was will it be close to the shock, all well and good you saying that standard offset is 45 so they will fine, you seem to be missing the point that they are a lot wider than standard width.

And where did you get that rubbish info from Wayne? Wikipedia?

Nope an online tyre calculator: http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html , so for you to say 215's will be fine is wrong.

i got 35s on the rear of mine with no rubbing anywhere and the tyre is well in the guard.

30 and you may need to get the guards rolled / trims modded.

this is on an ssr type rs and spoke design / dish will play a big difference in the overall fitment.

They will probably run or bind on the shock if using same offset as standard and go wider. 205/50 on my standard gti wheels used to rub on my coils, so going wider definitely will unless offset is changed.
