is the router or laptop near any large metal objects such as radiators?

Laptop no but the router is within 1 metre of a radiator
Im extrmely limited as to where i can put it due to the previous owner. My master socket for example is UNDER the radiator in our bedroom

metal objects near sender or receiver have been known to mess with wifi signals

Some of the high end ASUS routers are the daddy tried afew in hong kong and they are very strong using higher Ghz frequencies.
