What Wheel bolts for alloys
« on: 03 June 2013, 22:22 »
Basically I run a set of vw estorils on my mk3

The original wheel bolts sit in the seats Of the vw wheels perfectly as vw wheels naturally they would do ,

Now I want to run these

So I offered them up to the car and noticed ill need some spigot rings as takes Abit of fiddling to get in the centre but with the correct bolts I shouldn't need them am I correct ?

Anyways back to my wheel bolt question , when the bolts are in the wheel off the car they don't seem to sit in the seat of the wheel very well not snug like the bolts in the vw wheels so I presume I need different bolt seats ,

Anyone advise me on
- what sort of seat
- are they M12 x 1.5mm
- is there some where I can buy one bolt just to try

Here are some bolt hole shots but not very clear

If anything I think the bolts seat need to be more of an angle to sit snug

More of a cone seat I think

VW OEM have radial seats, aftermarket wheels most often have cone seats (should say in papers that come with them).

so probably you'll need to get a new set of cone seat bolts

They are second hand wheels got from a bloke at stonor this weeken saying they came of a mk2 ,

Ill buy a few individual bolts just to try out before I buy the wrong ones

So standard I have these eBay - 140753399872

And I probably need Ebay - 370664756201

And do you have any idea what length the originals are ?

Thanks

i'll check what dimensions bolts normally are in thevening

it's M14 though.

do the wheels say KBA and five digits somewhere. that would be the test number of the german automotive regulation authority... with that you can find papers easily on google :)

it's M14 though.

4 stud car will be m12, only the 5 stud cars had m14.

Aftermarket alloys should be square taper.

They look like a flat seat to me, although I can see a taper I think this is just a lead in for the bolt.
I would take one down to a wheel shop and ask to be safe.
If you fit the wrong bolts to a wheel they come loose very quickly....

Ordered a 60' taper bolt today with 26mm thread m12x1.5 and fits perfectly so purchased a set of tuner bolts

Also found out on wheel whores that they are Porsche dp Motorsports wheels off a 964 possibly so may be worth something to the right person one day :)
