head unit/stereo wiring help
« on: 28 January 2013, 16:10 »
hey guys,

i've recently had a problem with flat batteries and a squealing noise from somewhere under the bonnet when the car is warming up. i've had the alternator changed, all the earths checked and cleaned and a new battery. since this has all been done i've not had a head unit in the car and it's been working perfectly, so today i thought i'd put the stereo back in as i had some spare time; but once i connected the blocks to the back of the unit (not even the sub and amp wiring), the same squealing came back and the battery light was flashing.

Has anyone ever come across this before? would it be something simple as a dodgy head unit? which i cannot check myself at the moment as i don't have another one to connect up to see. Or would it be something with the wiring within the car?

Any help would be much appreciated as i'm starting to lose the will to live.

Cheers!

It could be as simple as a dodgy head unit or it could be the wiring, i would try a differant head unit in it before you spend anymore money. As for the flat battery does the head unit turn itself off properly when you take the key out of the barrel?
