VR6 and switched live
« on: 03 December 2012, 10:45 »
Hi all

Picked up a VR6 yesterday as a project and am scratching my head at the following.

Ive installed a radio only to find that both the perm and switched live of the radio loom on the vehicle are constantly live even when i remove the key.

Consequently im getting 130mA or thereabouts of drain on the battery so this will die over time.

Any reason why the switch live is always live??

When i remove the key from the barrel should it not pop out hence cutting the switched live?

Any help appreciated.

I know you have to swap the power cables round

I had to swap them round on mine, but i have a faulty ignition switch anyway so switched live is always dead...could be that and previous owner has split the permanent live? (My pioneer needs both permanent and switched to have feeds to work, but the permanent can bridge to the switched on the iso connection)

I'm figuring a faulty ignition switch as both switched and perm live on the cars radio loom are constantly love.

I seem to remember on my gti that when I removed the key the barrel ejected itself slightly but doesn't on my vr6
