Its just that the temp drop is felt through the heaters aswell so doubt the sender is at fault. There is definately a smell of coolant when stationary though. But even if there was a tiny leak somewhere, it would explain the huge drop in temp. Need to get sherlock holmes on this one.

I must add also that when I picked it up on tuesday it sat around 70 degrees all the way during the 80 mile trip but yesterday when sitting in traffic, the first time I had it at 90 degrees, the thin coolant line that goes from the throttle body to the heater matrix hose split and lost most of my water. Luckily i managed to fix it as was near a motac to get some pipe. Not sure if it was caused by overpressurisation or was just a weak link in the system. It failed where I beleive the small jubilee clip was diggin in to the rubber.

Anyone have any more info on what may be causing this problem? Spent about an hour or so today trying to bleed the system. I believe some air came out as I had to replace some coolant but it was minimal and still drops to around 70 degrees when driving.

The temp sensor in the rad!

Mine has similar issue won't go above 70 ish over fueling like mad! the oil sits at the normal 90c

I think my stat is shot though but not 100%

I read that the temp sensor in the rad and lambda control the fueling

The gauge sits bang on 90 when sitting though and the oil hovers around 90 regardless of water temp. There is definately a reduction in heater temp. Iam feeling air bubbles in one of the hoses going to the matrix when its running but nothing i did improved the situation. it also takes ages to warm up on first start. New thermostat made no difference.

When on tickover what temp do your fans kick in ? i know you say your stat is working but if i was you i would take it out again and check it. could be stuck partially open,i seen alot of new stats over the years that are faulty

Fans come on bang on 90 when sitting. Stat appears to open at 80 degrees on two seperate cold starts i've checked. No real way to check to see if its closing under pressure. Could do with one of those laser temp meters.

Removed and checked the thermostat, checked all the pipes and flushed the system and still drops down to 70 degrees when driving. Its cooling to an extent that when ive been on a run the thermostat is closed when I check it, pipe is cool to the touch. I'm thinking the radiator is too efficient or the car. Also noticed my aux water pump does not kick in once the engine is switched off. Fookin nightmare!!
