That old 'Stang...
« on: 24 August 2012, 21:37 »
Hey guys

As some of you may know, I've been the see the old mustang near me i believe to be abandoned, and so when i set off on my adventure i was surprised at the condition it was in, considering its been out in the rain.... I knocked on the houses it was near, one man told me the car has been there since he moved into his house (its been there at least 6 years then...) and in the 6 years its moved ONCE 4 years ago... They said in the 6 years they've seen the owner only a few times... and that he's usually away from home and rarely pops back, when he does doesn't stay for long either...

Okay suppose for me that was fairly good news....

Asked an old lady next, pointed to the house just next door to her....... Dirty windows, cracked window at the top/bedroom curtains all drawn and absolutely filthy.... Knocked 5 times to no answer, okay.... even better news for me i suppose?

Letter box open, peak threw to a stack of un-opened letters filling up the porch bit.

Checked the car, Nice condition, no rear window, rear interior gone, leather front chairs had transparent plastic portectors over them (not so good news for me...)

Other than that, grass growing well upto the boo of the car all around it but still seemed fairly rust free...

Tax disc, expired 03/2012... okay it seems to be going quite well, as the thing hasnt been renewed, maybe the owner gave up hope in getting it daily drivable? quick tax check showed:

Date of Liability   01 04 2013
Date of First Registration   13 05 2005
Year of Manufacture   1973
Cylinder Capacity (cc)   4998cc
CO2 Emissions   Not Available
Fuel Type   PETROL
Export Marker   N
Vehicle Status   SORN Not Due
Vehicle Colour   GOLD
Vehicle Type Approval   Not Available
Vehicle Excise Duty rate for vehicle
6 Months Rate   £121.00
12 Months Rate   £220.00

That scared me a bit i suppose, been renewed but no new tax disc in window (maybe the owners been away that long....?

Called the DVLA, wouldn't disclose information to contact him.
Called Police, wouldn't disclose information to contact him.
Called council, They think its on council land and want to tow it... Inspectors due to call soon... (They will then get in touch with owner)

In all, im going to try my best to get in touch with the owner, will leave a note on door/in letterbox and on the car... Will continue to speak to the council and ask them to contact him for me maybe...

The conclusion: Car left, no chance of being restored, open to the weather by an owner too busy to find the time to even give it propper storage + me upset = Not giving up until i speak to him.

Cheers all!

5.0... It'll be a 302ci
Are we talking about a Series 1 Mustang, or a late 73/74 Smog car? If so. then I wouldn't waste my time!
Bare in mind that Series 1 cars are the most desirable, but anything after the Mach 1 is a bit of a dog! Ford at this point were starting to lose the plot, and completely lost it with the 74

Some eye candy

67/68 Fastback are the way to go, and can be obtained for decent money

Be careful what you buy

Yeahhh the old girls a 73' and so big and heavy! :P as the years went on the stangs got heavier and heavier, however with the looks, I personally like the way the body flows, especially (well only...) With the top down, the way the lines curve up towards the end give it a sense of muscle :D

I would loveeee to get a fastback, preferably a '69 but don't want a project too big...

Its odd though, as there's a LOT of first generation (1965 - 1970, I believe) coupe's and fastbacks and convertibles about, however little early second generation 'Stangs around... Maybe due to the complete disregard for original design Ford showed leaving a real ugly car, but the 1970-1973 stangs are still VERY respectable in my eyes...

Besides, I'm going to the council Monday, asking to look on the election list thing (apparently you can see the names, details etc.. said a mate) and to see if his still paying taxes (Will say if his deceased of not) will also ask the fire bridage for him as he had a fire brigade coat in his porch... If all of that leaves me with no luck I'm claiming the car through DVLA, Putting it in my nans garage and waiting for an owner to turn up knocking... That way atleast the cars out of the weather causing less damage...
