Bonnet Wont Close
« on: 23 July 2012, 14:29 »
Hi guys, was fitting my BMC CDA the other day and thats all great!

However when i went to close the bonnet, it just wont shut! It latches on the first lock but wont push down in to the second lock

I've had a read around but cant find a solution, was just wondering if anyone had any ideas or had encountered this before?

Cheers

Jon

Take it back up and manually operate the mechanism to see if it is working. Perhaps the CDA is stopping it?  :undecided:

Sorry should have mentioned that. Theres nothing stopping it from closing, as I can push down both sides and they sit flush. Its just the middle at the front that wont push down in to the lock.

Also I've tried using a screwdriver as a pretend hook and that wont lock in even when I push it all the way down. Which is strange as the parts all move albeit not very easily, but enough to move with force which I can imagine is how they should be?

after taking my bumper off to fit my intercooler, my bonnet wouldn't shut unless with some force, but it's fine now.
don't be afraid to slam it

you sure nothing has fell down, I put my tools near the catch when working on the front, you sure nothing fell down when you were fitting the CDA
ARZ K03s, Oettinger Side Skirts, R32 front, Carbon stage 2, Forge 007p (yellow spring), Forge Actuator (yellow spring), Pipercross panel filter with DSG parts, N249 and N112 deleted, SAI deleted, Carbon canister deleted, Rear wiper deleted, Long Life turbo back custom exhaust with 200 cell sports cat, VR6/G60 clutch kit, Creation Motorsport TIP, Catch can, 'Wellycooler', K04 charge pipe, S3 ported inlet manifold - looks pretty standard on the outside though :)

I've had this problem, a good hard slam secured the bonnet but then it sat too low compared to the wings do I need to move he catch up by a few mm and all should then be good :)

I'll try giving it a massive slam when I get in and hope that works. If anything goes wrong I'm blaming you guys!

Nothing dropped when fitting the CDA, so I have no idea what else it could be other than replacing the catch!

I've seen a few of these fail on mk4's I got blamed for breaking one as well, when I'm sure it was just bad luck.

Could be worse, on some BMW's its a nightmare to sort out when the bonnet lock fails! You can try and cause the mechanism to click into the second catch point with a screwdriver but it doesn't always work depending on how bad the lock has gone.
