The belt hasn't snapped,he said he recons its slipped. There is just no resistance when turning over the engine  :undecided: will try and have a belt kit put on it today and see what happens before i start ripping it apart

He recons its gone because the pulleys/belt aren't moving when the engine is turning over. Having someone do a compression test on it tomorrow so will know more then

Well, had someone else have a look at the car today. When he 1st tried it he said "that doesn't sound like the belt has slipped". He took the belt cover off, tried it again and then changed his mind because he says the top pulley isn't moving and the bottom 1 is spinning.
Can anyone recommend a head re-builder,preferably in the north west

I wouldnt think it would turn over if the belt had snapped .My ford didnt ,pistons hit valves and wouldnt turn over.My uncle got his to turn over  but it smashed his cam shalft to pieces. I would strip the head and see whats happened.

if top isnt spinning but bottom is it will be the cambelt which has slipped, water pump could have gone which is common, or Hydraulic tensioner, it will have gone once hes either turned it off once it was slowing down or when he tryed starting it, if pistons have hit valves they make a right mess on 1.8ts gonna be easyer to throw another engine in id say! could be lucky though
