Removing front silencer
« on: 10 June 2005, 17:50 »
The front silencer on my mk2 8v has shot it,i was wondering if anyone else has just replaced it with a straight through pipe?
I would expect an increase in noise but how much?

Cheers

not a great deal noisier, you may as well go for it. you may have to space up/down either end of the pipes to fit the new centre section

How do you mean space/up down? do you mean getting an over or under size diameter pipe? Does anyone know what size i should be looking for?
cheers

mine is replaced with a straight system (full stainless front to back) and it sounds like a spit fire plane when idle. Lost alot of back pressure too.

stick to standard if you want it silent imo

yeah most straight through pipes are part of systems, or to go with performance systems so they tend to be a larger bore, i.e your exhaust is around 1.5" bore, my system is over 2.5" so you'd have to pack out an inch.
