iPod to iPhone connector?
« on: 28 September 2011, 10:46 »
Just got my hands on a 58 plate golf match with all the extras like trip, ipod connector etc.

When I put my girlfriend's iPhone 3G into the connector, it comes up as "not compatible with this version of...." or something to that effect. I'll be getting the new iPhone to come out and obviously that'll cause a problem.

Are there any leads I can buy to convert VW's ipod connector to iphone compatible ones?

Thanks, lads.

Sorry to bump the thread.

I can't seem to find anything at all so might just buy an old iPod. Does anyone know where I can find what iPods are compatible on factory fitted VW iPod connectors (in arm rest). Thanks :)

It's compatible it just wont charge the iPhone. The reason for this is the older phones take 12V and the newer phones take 5v to charge from another pin.

You need this if you want it to charge - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Scosche-passPORT-Charging-Adapter-iPhone/dp/B001HN6CVA

Hmmm. I've not tried my phone with it yet but when I tried my girlfriend's 3G it said it wasn't compatible. When I plug in the 4S tonight, what do I press in the car to play music? Also, will it takes calls - I noticed there is a phone symbol on the steering wheel...

Funnily enough, I still haven't attempted it with my phone. If it were to work, I imagine it won't support phone calling? Do you know what I'd have to install to use that function? Or perhaps if I were to get VW to install bluetooth into the car (not sure how much that would be?) that would cover it?

My car has the iPod adapter wire that plugs into the center console (with a USB power cable as well). I have gone through 4 of these in 2.5 years. I am about to go off warranty. I try and move the cord as little possible. Are any after market cords better?
Thanks!

I've finally tried getting it to work. Read the manual and went into the dealer.

Phone: iPhone 4S
Model: VW MK5 1.9 TDI Match
Problem: Plug in the phone and receive a message on the phone: 'Does not support charging, blah blah'. Double click CD and I see 'NO CD' in every category. That's with several playlists on the phone. Does it just not support the iPhone? Do I need to buy an older iPod?
