Key fob 'programming'
« on: 06 December 2011, 21:52 »
Following on from Jimble's 'does your boot lid "pop"' thread, got me thinking about my (our) key fob's.
We have two - Like I assume, most people here - And mine just unlocks the car and starts the ignition whereas the missus' fob goes one step beyond, when the car goes above a few mph, all the doors lock. I first assumed it was when her fob was used to start the car, but I now find that if she unlocks the car with 'her' fob, but I drive - with my key fob - the car will lock when reaching that certain speed.
I was just curious as to what others key fob's did and why I have only one fob that does this trick... Just casually looking at both fob's, they seem identical...

A question :
Can the fob's be programmed on the fly by some means to switch the facility on/off (key in ignition, indicator to left, right trouser leg rolled up etc etc) or does it involve a trip to the stealers/vag-com intervention??

You can set the doors to autolock on the MFD. Are you saying yours doesn't do it when you use your fob to unlock it?

My set up is like yours altho I have the key that does everything.

I just presumed the car recognises which fob is being used so works to how that key has been set up.

I kept meaning to put the other key in the ignition and see if the MFD does have slightly different settings i.e. the auto function is on etc.

So, It's all done on the mfd then, I'll have to check it out using both keys to see if there's a difference....
Still getting used to all this MK VI malarky........
I'll get me coat.....

When I first had mine the doors would lock when you get to about 10mph it was very annoying so I turned the autolock off in the MFD settings.

the car does remember the settings each key or driver select.

when i picked mine up the dealer said each key remembers footwell light %, locking settings and seat position if they're electric seats!

I've not tried it though as only i drive the car really

it would be great if AC temp and radio presets were remembered for each key too!

this thread has reminded me i need to activate the auto lock feature on mine.

Thanks for that. Its a pain when I have to use the spare set and a lot of settings are different.

seem to remember my dealer saying it can set the mirror positions too if you have the mirrors with memory function. Mine are not "memory" mirrors, so I've not tried.

So I checked both keys on the MFD today and the settings were the same for both
There was no tick in the 'auto close' for the wife's key when we *know* the doors lock at 15kph!
I've since put a tick in the box for both keys but not driven yet..... And when I remove either key/lock/unlock the car/re-check the MFD data, the tick's are still showing in the auto close box! So why didn't it show for key that *did* auto close before???

One answer perhaps is:- At an earlier date, the Auto close was enabled for the one key.... Then an ECU update was carried out and removed the 'tick' from the box in the display data, but the facility still worked??

Tomorrow I are be mostly scratchin me 'ead
