MK3 Aerial replacement
« on: 13 October 2011, 19:59 »
That time of year again where I feel I need to play about with the stereo/aerial in order to get an actual radio reception that works! At the moment it doesn't.

I was therefore thinking of replacing the standard VW roof aerial with this Autoleads one http://amzn.to/oACkKJ but if I get this, which is the amplified version, do I also need to get an aerial antenna booster like this one http://bit.ly/os7JMf

I was also going to get a new aerial cable to link the aerial to the booster to the stereo.

By doing all of this will I actually be able to get a reception on my radio?

Ticking sound on AM radio
Okay, just to follow up on this. Today I fitted this aerial booster http://bit.ly/os7JMf which has done a fantastic job and now I can listen to FM stations very well so probably no need to get a replacement aerial as well.

The problem I have now is a ticking sound when listening to AM stations. After looking around the web people mention it's the ignition and spark plugs but I don't really want to get new spark plugs to find out that's not the issue.

Anybody else have this issue? I might add this to a new post if I don't get a response as I'm now slightly going off the issue!
