Surely just get a pipe with the correct diameter, chop it down to the right size, bead the pipe and put hose clamps or screw type jubilee's on?
Whats the pipe diameter on the PD engines 50mm?

That is part of the plan. However because the intercooler has the bayonet connection either an aftermarket intercooler (£94) or a bayonet adaptor (£30) is needed. I know the bits I now need to sort it all out it just depends on whether I go the whole hog and get the aftermarket intercooler as well.

That adaptor is a new development then as that wasn't available when i had my MK4
Not overly convinced it looks like its creating a great seal mind

Ditch the bayonet nonsense and make a custom pancake pipe like so:
Then its win win, or as said make a pipe between the TB and IC, shouldn't be to pricey. I got some 51mm piping laying around somewhere.
