Not being funny guys but it doesn't have to cost a lot of money. You will have to do all the work mind.
Buy a superbike engine. A 2010 gsxr 1000cc engine with bit of head work will see 200bhp at the wheel.
Custom build a subframe with arms and buy a chain driven diff. Bit more to it than that but you get the picture.

How hard can it be??
The easy way would be to use mk3 or mk4 "syncro" parts which are fairly readily avalible (mk3 syncro would mean buying from germany or better still buy a complete car........try mobile.de as there's always several on sale)

like said earlier DH posted something about major structual mod's not being allowed anymore....I guess there is someway around this otherwise rallying wouldn't be allowed? (It could be worth checking before deciding any project)

They don't change much of the shell, seam welded etc but all the mounting points are in the factory locations.

Cutting the floor out of a mk3 is different ballgame.
