Just fitted mine yesterday - no worries at all.

They are fairly gentle in operation - no risk of bending the bonnet.

Probably less than 10 mins and about a tenner if you get the bits from a scrapper http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=112349.0

If your'e planning on opening the bonnet catch and allowing it to fly up and bounce when the struts are at full extension - then dare I say, you'd be a bit of a wally and yes, you could damage something.

Clearly the bonnet weighs a lot less than a boot lid.  By using the same struts, they're naturally going to open it with more force but having an ounce of common sense and a bit of restraint - you aren't going to damage anything.

I have them on mine fitted by the previous owner.

They are aftermarket and very soft so maybe thats a good bet?

Yes it's only holding up a bonnet.

Haha...

I meant they seem very smooth when opening and closing the bonnet.
