« on: 26 February 2005, 13:11 »
I have a 92 gti 8v,when i rev it to 2500rpm the oil warning buzzer sounds with the oil light flashing.I have checked the oil level and its ok,the car has been standing around a bit waiting for its new owner to collect it but i have been starting it up every week to keep things in order

any ideas
cheers

but as you say its been stood a bit, it might be a bit blocked up, try some of that oil cleaner in it, to clean it out maybe that might solve it

These do have 2 oil pressure switches. 1 for tickover/upto 1500 rpm, fits in the head if i remember rightly.
And 1 on top of the oil filter.Oil pressure switches are known to play up on VW`S.
Also cheap oil filters and oil can cause problems.
Do you get any rattles from the engine when the light is on,tappets start rattling when the pressure is low.

i bet the pick up on your oil pump is partially blocked, try an oil flush and change if that doiesnt work then drop the sump and clean it by hand

Bosun ,you were spot on it was the oil pressure sensor on the filter housing.I still dropped the sump though and checked the pickup and the oil pump, all was well down there.still had the same buzzer prob. so I changed that sensor and yeeehaa!!

Thanks to  all for the advice
