New 1.8t Gti owner, need advice.

Hi guys, new to this site but was just after some advice. I just bought
a 1999 Vreg 1.8t gti with 80,000 for £1500 it had some valbrem alloys
on which were curbed up and one looked really damaged because it was in
the boot, but were also given original wheels which I have put back on which are
fine.

 The brakes are good and the car seems to run well, but when
I hit around 70-80 the steering wheel has strong vibrations, does
anyone know what it is, or if it's common? I also couldn't find in the
history if it has had a cambelt change either so probably a good
idea to get it changed, how much is a good price and does anyone
live in Kent and could reccomend someone.

Any help would be appreciated.

Would this just not be balancing? Go to your local tyre shop and get them balanced, wont cost alot.

usually speed wobble would suggest the spigot rings, but there definately original?

I just had my cambelt & waterpump done at VW £399 inc. VAT I'm sure you can find it for £300 in a backstreet garage...

Get the front wheels balanced - Cam-belt kit including water pump (£110 odd from TPS) look about paying £100 labour.

Could be a buckle or defective tyre also mate. That was Cheap!!!

Mate my advice is get the car to a garage and get them to put it up on ramps and then do a full suspension and underfront checkup. It could be a something real easy and cheap to sort out before you go start spending £££. Wherebouts in kent are you??
There's a vw specialist garage I've just starting using in bexley. This guy nows all bout dubs and has come recommended by loads of guys on here.
