my gti did this when i fitted my front mount, was a hose blown off, on th journey home i had to rev the tits off it to get moving from junctions otherwise it would die, if your dads got a ramp have a look under the drivers side and check the hoses on the intercooler then follow them to the turbo and the throttle body. making sure there conected and tight

disconnect the maf,  if it runs you have a boost leak.

if it still does not run with the maf disconnected you have problems else where.
