Dash Heater Control Lighting has Busted...
« on: 20 January 2011, 18:45 »
Dash Heater Control Lights are Out, I've changed all of the fuses and they still don't work... is there anything else I can do or does the whole unit need replacing? - Its just that i've heared that its a fully sealed unit...  :undecided:

Any advice on what to do next?

Cheers, Les.

It'll more than likely just be the bulb that has gone mate. Theres a single tiny capless bulb fitted behind the controls that simply pulls out. These often go on mk3's seeing as they're bloody old now. Just pop the facia off from around the three heater dials and remove the ashtray then you'll see 4 screws holding it the centre section of the dash in. Withdraw the controls and on the back of them you'll see a white plastic shroud, pop that off and you'll see the bulb and green filter surround. VW sell them for less than a quid.

or, if you can fit an led, as it will out last the bulb, then you dont have to change it again

I had a nightmare getting the panel off enspite of it being a simple job!

Then forgot to put the little green shade thingy back on so i've now got white heater controls
