TRUST ME some games out there kill the graphics chip (baking hot) so the solder melts on them, best bet is get the board reballed with LEADED solder balls and you shouldnt have any probs! other thing i would recommend is get them 3fans that you can plug on the side or something too keep it cooler

where can i find these 3 fans??

also the fact that ps3 uses a low rpm single fan means it cant get rid of the heat quick enuff, ive taken both the ps3 and 360 apart and think the ps3 is probably the worst design for cooling because iirc the fan sits under the motherboard and it collects a huge amount of dust inside the console

thats a good point. mine wasnt anywhere near as bad as some of the pictures seen on the net.. but bad none the less.

found a good fan on amazon that is rated quite highly... unfortunately it is sold out. :undecided:

yep.. it appears the heatgun repair is a temp fix!!

Was playing gt5 last night and it turned off on me again. On closer inspection the PS3 was pumping out some SERIOUS heat. Tried playing it again a few times and it did the same thing but I was able to turn it back on.

I then switched to Pro Evo and played for an hour + with no problems what so ever.

Without a doubt it is GT5 thats causing the PS3 to over heat!!!  :embarassed:

... just to add it overheated again last night whilst loading the Pro Evo updates

ebay my man http://shop.ebay.co.uk/?_from=R40&_trksid=p5197.m570.l1313&_nkw=ps3+3fan&_sacat=See-All-Categories

one that i say get is http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Sony-PlayStation-3-Cooling-PS3-Fan-Variable-Speed-/330509087690?pt=UK_VideoGames_VideoGameAccessories_VideoGameAccessories_JN&hash=item4cf3e073ca
i keep my ps3 up right
or a 4 fan http://shop.ebay.co.uk/i.html?_nkw=ps3+4fan&_sacat=0&_odkw=ps3+5fan&_osacat=0&_trksid=p3286.c0.m270.l1313

but best bet is get the board reballed with LEADED solder and it will last over a year if you use it with the 4 fan (the more the fans the more cooler the ps3 will be)
