Gearknob change
« on: 12 December 2010, 22:49 »
When I bought my digi it had this gearknob in it

I want to change back to a standard black golfball gearknob but I can't get the above one off. It won't twist and I am nervous of using any tools on it in case I damage the gearstick. Would it have been glued on or would it have come attached to this gearstick, which I would have to remove in order to change the gearknob?

Could just be a stiff 'un.
If you're not bothered about the knob itself I say just get some mole grips on it!

I had the same issue.... Mole grips on the stalk and put some effort into twisting off the KNOB...

All will sort its self out from there...

If you are going to use mole grips, put a rag round it to save damaging it. Someone will buy it even if it's only for a few quid. Every little helps.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Have you had a good look around the knob for any small allen screws? Some gear knobs have a wee screw to tighted onto the gear lever to hold it tightly in place. Remove any screws, then twist it off.
