blew a gasket today!!!!!!!
« on: 26 November 2010, 20:45 »
was driving a bit harsh today an ended up with a loud air like escaping sound when puttin the foot down had a quick look and noise is coming from either the exhaust manifold or the turbo gasket!!! looking to see if anyone has had this problem and was it a big job to sort have been told it would be easier to take the engine out to replace these gaskets

both can be replaced in situ, just done mine this weekend when I changed the actuator over. You might have cracked the manifold, quite common

no more than a tenner mate. Don't forget the manifold nuts are "use once" too.

It's not that easy doing them in situ, you need a bit of guesswork to get to one of the manifold nuts as you can't see it. Also you need to drop the turbo down slightly to gain access to it. Just undo the bolt on the stabiliser bracket and you'll have enough room to get a ratchet in there. Easier than dropping the engine out though
