Cam belt replacement on a mk1
« on: 28 August 2010, 18:58 »
Broke my cambelt today but luckily only when turning it over slowly but whn I went to look at changing the belt I have noticed it has a kent gs2 camshaft.

I am unsure now as how to do it as I dont know where he marks shoud line up.....

Also how do I check I haven't caused any damage without ripping the head off?

Will be timed as standard, fit a new belt then carry out a compression test that will confirm if all ok.

Cheers Wayne.

So just line the marks up as normal and fit the belt. I had thought along those lines but wanted someone else to confirm it....

Now to find the marks...

There tends to be a mark on the inside of the camshaft pulley that lines up with the front of the head.

Or at least there is on mine

The other way to tell is to take the rocker cover off and look at the lobes on cylinder 1 (given that you are at TDC with piston 1)

The lobes should both be pointing upwards in a V I think.
