Just ordered a clifford avital maxx1 with the door actuator for single point c/l systems for a fitted price of ?345 which I though was pretty reasonable. It's got the capability to have all the gadgets added to it (remote start, proximity detector etc) and it has a spare channel for me to add some features of my own to  ;D

I phoned GAP and they knew their stuff but were coming out at ?409 for exactly the same system.

You got any pics of your dad's split ?

It makes lights flash and does locking but don't go beep beep - most important thing? >:(

You have PM, on how to get the beep beep working.  I also have a Cobra alarm :)

Figure this out then...

I just got a quote for a Mk3 I'm "hopefully" (no smilie for fingers crossed) getting in the next week or two.? Anyway, it currently has no alarm fitted AT ALL!!!? I got a quote through Swintons and the difference between a CAT 1 and no alarm was ?20 per year!!! :o

Its sort of related to the above posts, just though I would throw that in, some saving eh??? ???

Yeah, its a pretty minor saving to be sure, but you can't expect hundreds of pounds a year saving, or the company would just fit you an alarm for free!!!

For me its all about peace of mind - whether the insurance company requested it or not, I would always fit the best security I could, as I know I work damn hard to buy and keep my cars on the road, and I'll be f*cked sideways before some thieving scum is gonna take them from me.

Take Tobz's example - he has been on a quest for, what, a year to find his perfect Mk2? Imagine how gutted he would be if that disappeared - its a year wasted, and he needs to go back to square one and start again - that peace of mind has to be worth a few hundred quid alone!!!

I am with you on that one to be honest, I just thought ?20 was pathetic, I was expecting twice that.

lowcostcaraudio.com do cobra systems if anyone is interested you can buy the alarm seperate and fit it yourself but you cant have it certified unless its inspected which can cost about ?30.

fitting on an alarm is normally around ?130-50 rest is normally parts

cat 2 shouldnt cost no more than ?100 and like sheps said no more than about ?450 on a cat 1 if they want more try somewhere else :D
